Chicago Fire appoint Ezra Hendrickson as new head coach - "I am immensely proud"
Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire FC have named Ezra Hendrickson as the club's new head coach. The 49-year-old native of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines becomes the 10th full-time head coach in the club's history (check out the full list here). Hendrickson last worked in the Columbus Crew setup as an assistant coach.
“I am immensely proud and humbled to be named the head coach of Chicago Fire FC,” Hendrickson said in a club statement. “There are many people to thank. Firstly, I am grateful to our owner Joe Mansueto for this incredible opportunity. It’s a responsibility that I do not take lightly. ... I’m a big believer that a team’s identity should align with the reputation of the city it represents. When I think of Chicago, I think of hardworking, successful people and that is the identity this team will adopt. We will always give you our best efforts and make you proud to wear the Fire colors.
Although this is Hendrickson's first head coaching role in MLS, the 49-year-old has more than 25 years of domestic experience as a player and working in various roles at MLS clubs Seattle Sounders, LA Galaxy, and the Columbus Crew. During his time in MLS Hendrickson has won 15 major trophies as a coach and player.
