Maximilian Philipp returns to the Bundesliga - Loaned to VfL Wolfsburg

After one season with Dinamo Moscow in Russia, Maximilian Philipp has returned to the Bundesliga. The 26-year-old forward has been loaned to VfL Wolfsburg for the rest of the season. Wolfsburg did not specify whether they have a buy-on clause. 

"In Maximilian, we have signed the sort of top-class player we have been looking for," sporting director Marcel Schäfer said. "We already considered him one year ago, which makes it even sweeter that we managed to sign him now. He is a flexible player who can not just play several positions but also with his presence, engagement, and will to win can make the difference."

Dinamo Moscow paid €20 million for Philipp in the summer of 2019. In 20 games, the right-footed striker managed eight goals in Russia; in the current season he has managed one goal in seven games. 

"The year in Moscow has helped my sporting and personal development, it was a great experience," Philipp said. "But over the last weeks and months, I have developed the desire to return to the Bundesliga and face stiffer competition. I am happy that I will be given that opportunity in Wolfsburg because I had many good talks with Jörg Schmadtke and Marcel Schäfer. Those talks showed me that it is a well-organized club that follows a clear strategy that I can identify with 100%."
