Valencia set to join Liga MX side Querétaro - Among the most valuable free agents
Former Manchester United player Antonio Valencia will join Querétaro FC in the Mexican Liga MX, according to Ecuadorian outlet Ecuagol. The 98-times Ecuador international is without a club after he left LDU Quito in his home country and is one of the most valuable free agents on the market.
The 35-year-old, who can play all positions on the right wing, would reinforce Gallos Blancos for the 2021 Clausura. Valencia would join his fellow countryman and former Swansea winger Jefferson Montero, who already passed the medical tests, at Queretaro.
The veteran played more than a decade in Europe (from 2005/06 to 2018/19) – the longest time at Manchester United where he spent ten seasons. Before his spell at Old Trafford, he played for Villarreal and Recreativo de Huelva ahead of a loan transfer to Wigan in 2006, which became a permanent move in January 2018.
Valencia’s record move to Man United - Most expensive Ecuadorian in history
In the summer of 2009, Valencia joined the Red Devils for a fee of €18.8 million, which made him the most expensive Ecuadorian footballer in history, surpassing Felipe Caicedo, who joined Manchester City from FC Basel for €7 million two years earlier. In July 2019, he left the Premier League, where he ranks among the 100 players with the most appearances, to return to Ecuador.
